When Scrapbooking, journaling “tells the story”; Some things to think about when writing about your pictures are the 5 W’s – Who, What, When, Where, and Why. Write down all of your thoughts about your picture on a notepad or separate sheet of paper. If any single words jump out at you, you may have the beginnings of a good journaling topic or title for your page. If you don’t have an obvious title for your layout, try working backward from your journaling. Get your journaling information first, and then see if a title comes to you from that.
It can be hard and frustrating to get started, but journaling doesn’t have to keep you from making or finishing a great page! Play around with some of these ideas to add some excitement to your album.
Definitions: Choose one word that describes your picture/page and then use the dictionary definition as your journaling. Typing it out to look like the dictionary entry is also a quick and easy way to add interest. You can also use this method for name meanings.
Short Conversations: Recording little talks you have (especially with children) can be a great way to start journaling. You can write it out in the form of a movie script to add more drama (pun intended) to the page. Kids say the darndest things, and what better way to preserve the memory than to include it in a scrapbook?
Interviews: Similar to conversations, you may want to include some interviews with children or older relatives. If you were doing a heritage album, for instance, you may want to ask an older relative what they used to do for fun, what was their first job, how much was gas or a loaf of bread.
Song Lyrics: Can be used for page titles or even the theme of an entire album. The great thing is that there is a song/lyric for every mood or event, so you are sure to find something appropriate. Click

Quotes: There are many sites available with quotes for every occasion. If you are running into writer’s block, or just want to add a little professional touch to your pages, adding quotes can be just the thing!
Make a list: This is a pretty easy method to use for just about any kind of scrapbook. Try using different embellishments on a bulleted list to really make it pop!
